Transportation Investment Act of 2010

According to the Federal Highway Administration and National Transit Database statistics, the State of Georgia devotes fewer resources per capita to transportation than any US state except Tennessee. The 2010-2030 Statewide Strategic Transportation Plan stated that if additional transportation funding is not secured and transportation funding remains as is currently projected, Georgia's transportation network will continue to deteriorate, and diminish Georgia's ability to compete for jobs and growth in the future.

The Transportation Investment of 2010 (TIA 2010) is a regional 1% sales tax increase to solely fund needed transportation improvements within a region. Revenue raised within a transportation district stays within regions which opted for the sales tax. The 12 regions within Georgia are based on existing Regional Commission boundaries.

The Georgia Mountains Regional Transportation Roundtable adopted the constrained project list for the 13 county Georgia Mountains region, including Hall County, on October 5, 2011. Click here for the final Hall County project list and here for the entire Georgia Mountains Region.

During the general primary election in the summer of 2012, voters in each of 12 regions will have the opportunity to vote on the sales tax which stay in effect for 10 years and may be renewed after 10 years provided voters again approve the measure in another election. No county may opt out of the regional tax should a majority the region's voters approve the referendum on the ballot.
